Community
The London Co-op Store is a community of like-minded people who share a vision of a better world in which communities are truly human-scale communities, self-sustaining, ethically minded, and environmentally and socially responsible.
Our sense of community can be seen in action right in the store, as member shoppers interact and socialize, greet each other as friends, catch up on family news, share tips on preparing the foods they are buying, and post information on the bulletin boards.
We also connect, communicate, socialize and network through the following means:
- online forums (message boards)
- members' email list (online discussion group)
- potlucks and other social events
- web announcements of co-op and community news and events
- members' newsletter
- community connections to other organizations and the broader community
News
Great news! We have received a grant in the amount of $32,500 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation for new, more energy-efficient freezers.
As you have no doubt noticed if you have been in the store, renovations have been in progress as we prepare for the new set of freezers. The equipment has now arrived and is being installed.
It is a 5-door stand-up unit that will have storage room in the back and be accessible from the front. Shoppers will be able to see the products through the glass doors. No more lifting heavy lids on old clunky chest freezers to find out what's in stock! More accessible, more space-saving, more energy efficient, it even has LED lights to be more environmentally-friendly.
We are so grateful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for making it possible for us to "go green(er)" and improve your shopping experience at the same time.
The London Co-op Store members' online discussion group
The email list (online discussion group) at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LondonCoopStore/ is for members of The London Co-op Store natural food co-op in London, Ontario, to enable communication amongst members as well as to and from the board of directors.
The idea is to discuss any issues relating to the operation of the store, products carried, changes being considered, so that decisions can be made with sufficient input and discussion.
This list also serves to facilitate community-building and can be used to share thoughts and information, plan in-person get-togethers such as co-op potlucks, and socialize online as individuals.
